– Until AvroTros has confidence that structural adjustments will be made to focus on the artists and their musical message, we will keep it open whether we participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, says a statement reproduced by De Telegraaf.

The statement came as a comment on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) asking an independent expert to investigate the controversial cancellation in Malmö.

The Dutch contestant, Joost Klein, was disqualified from the final due to an incident behind the scenes with a female TV photographer, whom he allegedly threatened. The incident is still under investigation by the Swedish police. The Dutch delegation called the EBU decision “disproportionately strict”.

Joost Klein is coming to Norway to play at Sentrum Scene in February next year. There was a great demand for tickets, NTB has previously reported. Now he has just released the song “Luchtballon (1999)”, in which he does not comment directly on what happened.

But on the album cover he is wearing the blue suit from Eurovision, and sings that he “sometimes thinks the world is stupid” and that “the past hurts, but I’ve learned from it”. In the associated the music videowhich is a computer animation, the hot air balloon crashes, and Joost Klein is dragged away by two men in suits – but he gets back into the air again.

He is praised in the comments section of the video, which has been viewed close to a million times in the first day on YouTube and is in sixth place above music on the way up. His Eurovision song “Europapa” is according to De Telegraaf streamed over 100 million times on Spotify.
