After a car accident having cost the lives of three police officers on May 21, involving a driver under the influence of alcohol, Yaël Braun-Pivet advocates drastic measures. Asked Thursday about South Radiothe President of the National Assembly said she was in favor of a total ban on drink-driving.
To support her point, the Renaissance MP for Yvelines relied on the example of Japan, which applies zero tolerance for alcohol for drivers.
“I lived in a country, it was Japan, where there was zero drink driving. It wasn’t 0.1 grams, 0.2 grams, but zero. You have a drink, you don’t drive. I think when you’re driving a car and you’re either drunk or under the influence of narcotics, you’re dangerous because the car becomes a weapon.”she explained.

“If we consume, we walk home or we don’t”
In Japan, “Zero alcohol seemed to me to be something very clear for everyone and I can tell you that it was extremely well respected, because the penalties in front were very severe”says the President of the National Assembly.
According to Yael Braun-Pivet, “we have to ask ourselves the question” of the application of such a measure in France. “Zero alcohol, zero drugs when you drive and if you drink, you walk home or you don’t”she offers.
Paying tribute to the police officers killed during the collision of Villeneuve-d’AscqYaël Braun-Pivet was moved by the “broken lives” of “20 year olds”. On Tuesday, she paid tribute to civil servants with a minute of silence in the National Assembly. Emmanuel Macron condemned the accident in strong terms, seeing it as a symptom of a process of “decivilization » in our society.
