Sport: Norway participated in the level during the main tournament, as one of twelve teams in the European and African zones. There were losses in all three group matches against Serbia, Sweden and Greece, and then in the relegation duels against Portugal and Bulgaria.

Emily Sartz-Lunde has been a Norwegian bright spot even though she is not in the world rankings. She was involved in Norway’s first two match victories, in doubles against Sweden together with Matylda Burilo and in singles against Portugal, when she beat 760th-ranked Angelina Voloshchuk.

On Friday, Sartz-Lunde won the first set against Gergana Topalova, but the 253rd-ranked Bulgarian turned around to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Ulrikke Eikeri thus had great pressure to win against Viktoria Tomova, who is number 74 in the ranking. Despite a sluggish start, Eikeri was convincing and finally turned around to win with the numbers 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Thus the match had to be decided in a doubles match, where Sartz-Lunde teamed up with Carina Syrtveit. Unfortunately for the Norwegian duo, the Bulgarians were too strong and won 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Norway’s highest-ranked player Malene Helgø (389) has been in the tournament, but has not played in the last few days.

Bulgaria will face Portugal on Saturday in a winner-takes-all match.
