The main UN agency for Palestinian affairs announced on Wednesday that it has made significant progress in vaccinating children against polio in the Gaza Strip. The organization also called for a permanent ceasefire to ease the humanitarian crisis.
The agency reports that about 187,000 children received the vaccine in central Gaza.
The campaign began last month after a boy was diagnosed with polio, the first in Gaza in 25 years.
Locals say the main reason for the return of polio is the collapse of the health system and the destruction of most of Gaza’s hospitals.
