WASHINGTON, Nov 26 – The White House on Monday confirmed that President Joe Biden will attend Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, thus restoring an important democratic tradition that the future president had previously neglected, Anadolu Agency reported.
“The President (Biden) promised to attend the inauguration ceremony of whoever won the election. He and the First Lady will fulfill that promise and attend the inauguration ceremony.
“He sees this move as an important demonstration of upholding democratic values and respecting the will of the people, while ensuring an orderly and effective transition of power,” spokesman Andy Bates told reporters.
Trump previously did not attend Biden’s inauguration in 2021, while continuing to make baseless claims that the results of the 2020 election were manipulated, despite the lack of hard evidence and having been repeatedly rejected by the courts.
Trump also did not invite Biden to the White House after his defeat in the election.
Biden revived that tradition earlier this month when he hosted Trump at the White House for talks, as the president and his senior officials vowed to ensure a “smooth transition of power”. – BERNAMA
