Tour of Burgos 2022 preview | Vuelta contenders sharpen the knives

The Vuelta a España is approaching, so the traditional preparatory matches are just around the corner. The Tour of Burgos is perhaps the most important of these. In the leader’s jersey looks ahead to the race!

For a while it seemed that Egan Bernal would make his comeback in the Tour of Burgos after months of recovery, but the Colombian will not make his comeback in the peloton yet. As unfortunate as that will be for him, there will be plenty of other interesting things for the cycling followers to look forward to. ‘Who is where in his preparation for the Vuelta?’, will be the central question.

Favorites Tour of Burgos 2022

Those who have set their sights on the Vuelta a España can prepare themselves wonderfully in the Tour of Burgos. No wonder that several top favorites of the Spanish three-week race are also making their appearance in the preparation race. With their qualities, they are also the favorites for the overall victory in this round.

In that case we immediately think of Jai Hindley, the surprising winner of the youngest Giro d’Italia. We haven’t seen him for a long time, but he will want to prove himself again in Spain. With a strong team, wherever Wilco Kelderman and Emanuel Buchmann Being a part of it, he must be able to go a long way.

We now know from Jai Hindley how well he can climb.

At UAE Team Emirates they play Joao Almeida out in Spain, but he too has been out of circulation for a long time. So it remains to be seen how he will perform in Burgos. Otherwise they can still aim for the youngster with his team Juan Ayusowhich is very good in this field.

INEOS Grenadiers also starts with several strong pawns. Pavel Sivakov, Tao Geoghegan Hart and Carlos Rodriguez are the men in the British formation to keep an eye on. It will be interesting to see how they divide the tasks uphill in this kind of competition, in the absence of the big leaders.

At Movistar they have with Ivan Ramiro Sosa someone in the ranks who has already won this competition twice in recent years. The Spaniard is therefore also one of the favorites for this edition. Teammate Alejandro Valverde can finish high, but is probably not one of the favorites for the overall victory.

Bahrain Victorious has Wout Poels as an interesting man, while Astana can count on Vincenzo Nibali and David de la Cruz. EF does it with Hugh Carthy and Israel counts on Ben Hermans. Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl has climbers like James Knox and Fausto Masnada with it, Juan Pedro López can prove himself again at Trek-Segafredo. Among the continental teams, the most interesting name is Lorenzo Fortunato.
