Accidents and natural disasters: – It is unfortunate for all parties when such a serious criminal case is not prosecuted, says police attorney Eirik Braathen in the East police district to VG.

Shortly after the murder in August 2021, the man was released from custody and required to report. However, this obligation to report expired on 30 December 2021. The man then applied for a passport in the neighboring district of Oslo on 7 February 2022, just over six months after the murder took place.

A week later, he had his application approved.

– Unfortunately, a case management error has been made with us, and this is deeply regrettable. This is a mistake that should not happen, says Elisabeth Lund, who is section leader for passports and ID in the Oslo police district.

She tells the newspaper that there was a failure in the routines and that the procedural rules were not followed correctly.

According to police information, the man traveled to India with the new passport in June 2023.

The man is accused of killing his own son by drugging him and then setting fire to the house at Skedsmokorset in 2021. He denies any guilt.

Two of the people who were in the townhouse where the fire started got out, while a third died in the fire. The public prosecutor indicted the man in his 60s for murdering his own son.
