DALLAS — Outfielder Estevan Florial and right-hander Spencer Howard are not only changing baseball addresses, but baseball countries.
Florial, who broke camp with the Guardians this past season, has signed to play for the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization.
Right-hander Spencer Howard, who made two appearances with the Guards, has signed to play with the Rakuten Eagles.
Florial, according the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, will play for the Eagles after spending this year with the Guardians. The Guardians acquired Florial from the Yankees for Cody Morris before the start of the season.
In 36 games, Florial hit .123 (17 for 98) with three homers, 11 RBI and a .631 OPS (onbase percentage+slugging percentage).
He continued to struggle at Class AAA Columbus, hitting .213 (42 for 197) with nine homers, 30 RBI and a .691 OPS.
The Guardians purchased Howard from the Giants on July 5 when their rotation was struggling. He made two appearances, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA, before being designated for assignment.
