UFC Vegas 91 | The Crystal Ball: what now for winners Perez, Guskov & Silva

Alex Perez

If anyone needed a win to stay relevant in the top 10 at flyweight, it was Alex Perez. The American has struggled with injuries and health problems in recent years and has lost his last three matches. Perez took the fight against Matheus Nicolau with only three weeks of preparation and fought a very strong match. In the second round he knocked out Nicolau. Perez, who is eighth in the division, can finally look up again.

There are several options available for Perez. The American has not yet fought against men like Manel Kape, Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi who are above him. However, it is also possible that the UFC will still let him fight Tagir Ulanbekov. Ulanbekov is just outside the top 10, but Perez was actually scheduled to face him on June 15. However, Perez took the substitute match against Nicolau, leaving Ulanbekov without an opponent. The UFC could reschedule that bout, but Perez may be entitled to a higher-ranked opponent with his victory over Nicolau. Time will tell.

Bogdan Guskov

The Uzbek Bogdan Guskov managed to win his second victory in the UFC with a convincing knockout victory over Ryan Spann and will enter the light heavyweight rankings this week. Despite a difficult first round, he managed to finish Spann in the second round with a nice combination and ground and pound. There are many options for Guskov in the top 15 of the division. The Uzbek only fought against Volkan Oezdemir on his debut. He lost that game.

A very obvious match would be a fight with Johnny Walker. However, this does not seem to be a possibility because brother Valter is Guskov’s regular training partner and he therefore regularly trains with Johnny. This makes Nikita Krylov a very interesting option for Guskov. Krylov has been standing still in the division for a while and is one of the few not yet booked. It could be a perfect match to book as a co-main event on a Fight Night.

Karine Silva

With her fourth straight win in the UFC, Karine Silva appears to be on her way to the top 10 flyweight rankings. The Brazilian won against compatriot Ariane Da Silva (former Lipski) via unanimous decision. This time no submission in the first round, but a convincing victory for ‘Killer Karine’. Silva has plenty of options to fight in the division.

A very interesting match would be a fight against Katlyn Cerminara. The American is in seventh place in the division and is in freefall. The former title challenger and #1 contender has lost her last two bouts and will now have to fight someone below her. For Cerminara it is an opportunity to demonstrate that she still belongs in the top 10 of the division. For Silva, it’s a good measuring point to see where she stands in the division.
