Alex Perez was actually scheduled for a three-round fight against Tagir Ulanbekov. The UFC planned to convert that fight into a five-round main event bout. For unknown reasons, the UFC was unable to reach a deal between Perez and Ulanbekov for a main event.

The organization therefore canceled the planned fight that was scheduled two weeks earlier in Newark, New Jersey between Tatsuro Taira and Joshua Van from the event. Perez and Taira did agree, so both men will now fight the main event on June 15. Ulanbekov now fights Van in a bout scheduled for three rounds.

Main Event

For Perez it will be his second main event and his third match in four months. The former title challenger did not fight for at least a year and a half due to injuries. Perez managed to break his bad streak of three losses in his most recent match by knocking out Matheus Nicolau.

Opponent Taira is still flawless in his MMA career. The great promise from Japan has won four times so far in the UFC and most recently managed to finish Carlos Hernandez via TKO. It was his third finish in four bouts in the Octagon. Taira now faces the toughest opponent of his career so far and fights a ranked opponent for the first time.
