Sport: It reports both Algemeen Dagblad and the local newspaper Leeuwarder Courant. Van Persie is expected to sign a contract of several years and will take over after the current season.

The Netherlands’ former national team striker has been associated with the Feyenoord system since he signed up as a player at the club in 2019.

Heerenveen is in 10th place with three rounds remaining in the honorary division. In March, Kees van Wonderen announced that he was going to step down as the club’s head coach.

Van Persie is the all-time top scorer for the Dutch national team with 50 goals in 102 games.

At club level, he bagged goals for, among others, Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United. He won the Premier League with the latter in 2013.
