Sen. JD Vance’s latest inflammatory comments about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, stealing pets and eating them threaten the safety and well-being of children. Because of his debunked, baseless claims about immigrants, his more extreme supporters have made threats leading to schools being evacuated.
Instead of condemning those who call in bomb threats and threaten the well-being of children, Vance and Donald Trump, his running mate, have doubled down on their claims, making it more likely their more extreme supporters will bring harm to children. And everyone should remember that the bipartisan immigration reform bill — which was set to overhaul the U.S. immigration system and ready to be enacted by Congress — was defeated because Trump exhorted Republicans to kill it so he could use immigration as a campaign issue.
