PARIS, NOV 24 – Max Verstappen, who has clinched his fourth consecutive world title, is a veteran of 10 Formula One seasons where he has forced officials and fans to spend as much time poring over the rulebook as they do his track record. .
The fierce competition this season has shown the fighting spirit of Verstappen who is often under pressure and has once again invited criticism of his willingness to approach the limits of the rules in his competition with other drivers.
Verstappen shrugged off criticism of the way he tried to defend his position from title challenger Lando Norris in the Mexican Grand Prix.
“I know what I’m doing,” he said. “Some people are a bit biased, I understand, that’s okay. In the end, it’s not my problem.”
Verstappen comes from a racing background. His Dutch father, Jos, raced in eight seasons of Formula One. His mother, Sophie Kumpen, is a Belgian karting champion.
He began his karting career in 2005 and won multiple titles as he progressed through each stage, culminating in a record season in 2013.
Verstappen finished the 2014 season by winning races in F3. He then joined the Red Bull development squad and part in an official practice session with Toro Rosso at the Japanese Grand Prix, three days after his 17th birthday.
When he made his racing debut in Toro Rosso at the 2015 season opener in Australia, he became the youngest Formula One driver in history, almost two years younger than the previous record. – AFP
