MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts — BJ’s Wholesale Club announced it will increase its membership fees at the beginning of the year, the chain’s first increase in seven years.
A news release from BJ’s says the “Club” membership fee will increase by $5 to $60 per year, while the “Club+” membership will increase by $10 to $120 a year.
“Since the last membership fee increase, the company has transformed its business with a relentless focus on delivering value to members,” the news release says. “Today’s announcement allows the company to invest in an even stronger value proposition for its 7.5 million member base, which continues to grow.”
BJ’s has more than 200 locations in the U.S., including in Akron, Avon, Middleburg Heights, North Canton, Warrensville Heights and Willoughby.
The announcement from BJ’s comes after competitor Costco increased its membership fees in September. Costco has about 52 million members.
CBS News reports BJ’s membership fees are a major profit source for the company, generating $115 million in income.
