I am writing in response to the column, “Mr. Trump, Follow Mr. Lincoln” in the Sunday Nov. 24 edition.
I truly wish it possible for Donald Trump to emulate Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately, Trump has never given any sign that he has the capacity to even understand why Lincoln was a great man. Lincoln was highly intellectual, moral, and empathetic. Trump has shown repeatedly he is anti-intellectual, often seeming proudly ignorant, vindictive (just ask Mike Pence), amoral and unable or unwilling to even consider the effect that his policies have on actual human beings.
He appoints only sycophants to bolster his ridiculous ego. He obstinately refuses to admit that he lost the 2020 election, and he admires and wants to emulate authoritarian dictators. He does not have the capacity to follow Mr. Lincoln.
