Wichita Fire and Police battle over hygiene items

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department is going up against the Wichita Fire Department in a battle over hygiene products. Both departments are competing to see who can collect the most products to help others in the community.

Federal assistance doesn’t cover hygiene items like soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toilet paper. So, police and fire crews are collecting items to give to Simply Hygiene, a nonprofit that works with schools and service organizations to get the supplies to people who need them.

The WFD and WPD are asking people to drop off all kinds of hygiene items at firehouses or police substations from now through Dec. 2. WFD boxes and WPD barrels are also at Wichita City Hall.

“Together, we can make a significant impact in supporting our city while helping Your Wichita Police Department emerge victorious!” the WPD said on social media. “Let’s show our community spirit and help Wichita thrive!”

“Let’s come together as a team to positively impact our community and bring home bragging rights for WFD or WPD! (LET’S GO FIRE!)” the WFD said on social media.
