WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man will spend over two decades in prison for killing a semi-pro football player.
Timothy Golden was a utility player for the Kansas Cougars, a semi-pro team that was based out of Wichita. Police said some men fired more than a dozen rounds into his apartment on LaClede Street on July 15, 2017. The 19-year-old died at the scene.
In 2018, a jury convicted Ritchie Randle Jr. of first-degree premeditated murder and criminal discharge of a firearm in Golden’s death. He was sentenced to life plus 13 months in prison. He will spend at least 50 years behind bars.
Last month, Larry Triplett III pleaded guilty in the case. He pleaded to second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated battery. One of those counts of aggravated battery was in connection to a separate case in 2020 where a man was shot near the Keeper of the Plains in downtown Wichita.
On Friday, Judge David Dahl sentenced Triplett to 246 months (20.5 years) in prison.
