An incessant ballet of cars and heavy goods vehicles during rush hours, some damage… For around ten days the tranquility of Neauphle-le-Vieux, a peaceful village of around 900 inhabitants, located near Thoiry, has been disturbed by the implementation of a deviation of the D 11. The reason for this bypass route, the partial collapse of a ruined house located at the corner of the D 42 and this departmental road, which connects Villiers-Saint-Frédéric to Thoiry.
On October 18, the mayor (without a label) Denise Planchon had to urgently issue a danger order, ordering the owners of this building to carry out work as quickly as possible. At the same time, the road was closed and a diversion put in place. It passes through narrow streets, not necessarily sized to support such traffic and in particular that of heavy goods vehicles, which ignore the ban on more than 3.5 tonnes.
For local residents, this becomes difficult to bear. “This presents a real safety problem, the sidewalks are very narrow. It’s a ballet of cars and heavy goods vehicles during rush hour. I can no longer leave my house, the vehicles are coming at full speed downhill. When a truck passes, it flattens the walls. And we are in vacation time! What will it be like at the start of the school year,” complains a resident of rue de l’Amandier.
Some trucks have also left traces of their passages: a badly destroyed sidewalk, a damaged electrical pole, a torn telephone cable and a car whose entire left side was dented, by a heavy goods vehicle that left without leaving its contact details. Others note a deterioration of the roads. “There are almost potholes. And the gas pipes are just below,” confides one of them.
Trucks ignore the ban
The mayor has decided to organize a public meeting this Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the village hall to inform residents. “Even though we put information on our website, some people don’t read it,” emphasizes Denise Planchon. As for the implementation of the diversion, criticized by some local residents, she explains that “the roads were marked out by the roads department of the departmental council and the gendarmes validated”.
Regarding heavy goods vehicles, she recalls that the municipality is prohibited for those over 7.5 tonnes and some streets with more than 3.5 tonnes. “The trucks pass despite everything and it’s not easy to manage,” she concedes. This discomfort should only be temporary. “The demolition of the house is underway. We are the ones who carry it out at the owners’ expense. By the end of the week, barring any surprises, it should be over. »
