JOHANNESBURG, SEPT 29 – 17 people were killed in two mass shootings that happened close to each other in a rural town in South Africa, police said today.
A search is underway for the suspect, national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said in a statement. The victims who died consisted of 15 women and two men, he said. While another is in critical condition in hospital.
The shooting happened on Friday night in the town of Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape region in south-eastern South Africa. Video released by police shows that the shooting happened at two houses in the same neighborhood.
Twelve women and a man were killed in one house, while three women and a man were killed in another, police said. – AP
