NEW DELHI, OCT 17 – About 20 people died after drinking poisoned alcohol in Bihar, eastern India, local media reported today.
The sale of alcohol is banned in Bihar, but locals claim enforcement of the ban is lax and counterfeit alcohol is produced illegally.
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party based in Bihar said the number of deaths due to adulterated alcohol reached 30 people and dozens more lost their sight.
“People say alcohol is banned in Bihar. But it is still available everywhere,” said Yadav.
The latest deaths occurred in poor communities in Siwan and Saran districts, according to local reports. – Named
