3 Chevening Scholarship recipients celebrated

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 6 SEPT – A total of three recipients of the Chevening Scholarship program were celebrated at the Chevening Reception held at the Official Residence of the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam on 3 September.

According to a statement issued by the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam, here, the ceremony hosted by the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Her Excellency Alexandra McKenzie is intended to celebrate the achievements of Chevening scholarship recipients from Brunei before they depart to study in the United Kingdom .

Also present at the reception were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General (B) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Poh Kui Choon; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Dr Chin Wei Keh; AITI Chief Executive, Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar and senior officers, Chevening scholarship recipients and their family members and Chevening alumni.

In her welcome speech at the event, PYT Alexandra McKenzie expressed her admiration for the scholarship recipients for their perseverance and ability to adapt.

At the ceremony, PYT Alexandra McKenzie introduced the three celebrated Chevening scholarship recipients, namely Umair Akmal Haji Noor Ahsffian who followed the MSc in Climates Futures: Science, Society and Politics program at Leeds University, Dr Chiao Yuen Lim who followed the MSc in Health Data program Analytics and Machine Learning and Jasmine Kistin Wong Mei Yik who followed the LLM in Law and Technology program at Queen’s University Belfast.

He expressed his joy when he had the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the scholarship recipients who not only excelled academically but also received the rich cultural exchange offered by the Chevening program.

It proves the enduring partnership between the United Kingdom and Brunei Darussalam and he believes the scholarship recipients will continue to be agents of positive change in their commitment.

PYT Alexandra McKenzie also expressed her appreciation to the Chevening alumni who attended and noted the continued involvement and support for the program which is very valuable in nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Networking sessions were also held where scholarship recipients, alumni and guests had the opportunity to share their experiences, views and aspirations.
