IPOH, 23 SEPT – The school holidays that ended yesterday should have been used with beneficial activities, but it became a valuable lesson for 69 school students when they were among the 136 arrested by the police in Operation Gangsters in Jalan Klebang Ria, yesterday afternoon.

The joint operation of the Royal Malaysian Police Perak Contingent together with several agencies such as the Environment Department and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), started at 6:30 pm yesterday until early this morning.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said in the operation, his party arrested 130 men and six women aged between 12 and 45, believed to be involved in illegal racing activities and witnessed the race.

“We acted on public complaints after receiving information that there was a disturbance of public order in the Klebang Perak area and a case of violating traffic laws. The suspect who was involved in illegal racing was arrested in accordance with Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act and detained for further investigation,” he said at a press conference after the operation at Kampung Tawas Police Station, early this morning.

Azizi said all those detained had undergone a urine screening test and two individuals who were not students were found to be positive for drugs Methamphetamine.

He said the police had also issued 168 summonses for various offences, the highest being no license (40), no side mirror (29) and wrong vehicle registration number (22), and confiscated a total of 20 motorcycles.

Azizi said there is a trend that spectators watching illegal races bring their children, wives and families to witness the useless act and disrupt public order.

“Most of those arrested are spectators, some are 12 years old. We would like to advise that all the roads in the state of Perak, the routes that are monitored by the police, I do not like when I see actions highlighted by uncivilized riders, disobeying traffic rules,” he said.

Azizi said that in the operation, a policeman with the rank of corporal suffered a minor injury to his hand, after his motorcycle was hit by a motorcyclist in the operation. – Named
