Top seed Iga Swiatek has confidently reached the round of 16 at the US Open. The 23-year-old Pole dominated her opponent Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia, especially in the second set, with a 6:4, 6:2 win. In the round of the best 16, Swiatek will now face the 16th seeded Russian Lyudmila Samsonova.
“I have to focus more and stay more in my bubble because it’s just louder,” said the world number one after her first evening appearance under floodlights this year about the change compared to daytime matches. “The atmosphere was great.” Swiatek is aiming for her sixth Grand Slam title in New York; she has so far won the US Open in 2022.
