Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi arrived in Turkey today, for the first time during his tenure.

Sisi’s visit signals the end of almost a decade-long crisis in the relations between the two countries.

Relations between Turkey and Egypt were strained in 2013, when the Egyptian Armed Forces, led by Al-Sisi, then Chief of General Staff, overthrew Islamist President Mohammad Morsi, who was considered a close political ally of Ankara.

During today’s negotiations, Erdogan and Al-Sisi will discuss the development of bilateral relations, and will also participate in the session of the bilateral commission for strategic cooperation.
