ICoPP shares knowledge in the field of psychology

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 4 – A total of 350 participants attended the International Conference on Psychology and Pedagogy (ICoPP) 2024 which took place at Dewan Tarbiah, Seri Begawan University College of Religion (KUPU SB), today.

Present as the guest of honor was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs (KHEU), Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim.

The conference organized by KUPU SB through the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI), KHEU themed Effective Pedagogy Based on Holistic Psychology it was also attended by Islamic education teachers, JPI, academics and students of KUPU SB, officials and staff of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Jerudong Coast Specialist Center (PJSC), private individuals and overseas participants.

The conference presented one premier paper and four working papers.

In the welcoming speech of the co-chairman of the conference, Associate Professor Dr Shahril bin Ahmad Razimi explained that one of the objectives of organizing ICoPP 2024 is as a platform for participants to acquire the latest knowledge in the field of psychology and pedagogy, including theory, research, and best practice.

The next conference saw a keynote presentation delivered by Dr Goolam Hussein Rassool from the Center of Islamic Studies and Civilisation, Charles Stuart University Australia, entitled Integrating Islamic Psychology into Modern Educational Practices which, among other things, explains the integration of Islamic psychology into modern educational practices, focusing on the coordination between classical Islamic knowledge and contemporary teaching methods.

Meanwhile, the first keynote speaker, Senior Assistant Professor from the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Dr Hajah Salwa binti Dato Seri Setia Haji Mahalle who discussed the topic Empowering Well Being: Harmonizing Holistic Psychology and Pedagogy states that harmonizing holistic psychology and pedagogy involves integrating psychological principles with educational practice to create a more comprehensive and effective teaching approach.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Noor bin Saper from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia, as the second keynote speaker presented on The Need for Islamic Guidance and Counseling in Addressing Various Social Issues explained that the development of modernism today has worked on a practical intervention approach as well as meeting the comprehensive human psychological needs.

The conference continued in the afternoon with the third keynote presentation from Consultant Organizational Psychologist, Malaysia, Dr Alizi Alias, entitled Psychology and Islam: Islamisation, Relevance and Integration.

The fourth keynote presentation by Professor Dr. Adi Atmoko from Malang State University, Indonesia discussed about learning based Discussion: Knitting Diversity to Achieve Harmony and Student Character explained that the diversity of students demographically, sociologically, physiologically and psychologically is a fact that if not managed well will cause negative student behavior.

According to the KUPU SB statement, ICoPP 2024 is expected to be attended by approximately 125 participants.
