The Potsdam Student Union canteens are particularly vegan-friendly, according to the animal rights organization Peta. The seven cafeterias in Potsdam, Wildau and Brandenburg (Havel) received three out of five possible stars in a Germany-wide survey, as the organization announced on Wednesday. This means they are among the “top cafeterias with vegan-friendly offerings.”

The animal welfare organization praises vegan main dishes such as chili, Thai curry and vegan fried fish as well as the meat-free “Veggie Wednesday”. In the first quarter of 2024, an average of 1,850 of the 4,140 portions served daily were vegan.

According to the information, 37 student unions took part in the PETA survey. Only two received less than three stars. Four and five stars are awarded to cafeterias that only offer vegan food.

“We are very pleased that the German student unions are responding to demand and continuously and creatively expanding their vegan offerings,” said PETA expert Björn Thun.
