SHAH ALAM, SEPT 5 – Less than 24 hours after the Selangor Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks (Perhilitan) installed a trap, the crocodile that was found inhabiting Taman Tasik Seksyen 7, Shah Alam was successfully caught last night.

Director of Perhilitan Selangor, Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh said the crocodile in question was spotted entering the trap around 10:20pm, when the inspection was carried out by its members.

He said following the success, Perhilitan Selangor will conduct follow-up monitoring for two days and the area will be closed for the same period at night, to ensure there are no other crocodiles in the lake.

“Alhamdulillah the operation has been completed and we managed to save the 1.68 meter long copper crocodile with an estimated weight of around 15 to 20 kilograms. The main factor in the success of this operation is because we managed to clear this recreation area at night, so there is less disturbance to make him eat the fresh chicken bait we put,” he said at a press conference after the operation.

Mohd Adib said the crocodile will be placed in Paya Indah Wetland, Dengkil, Selangor and will undergo a quarantine process to ensure the reptile does not carry any disease. – Named
