The Hollywood stars are back in Toronto – and with them this year, some music legends. The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) starts on Thursday evening (local time) with the film premiere of David Gordon Green’s “Nutcrackers”. The comedy-drama starring Ben Stiller is one of more than 250 entries that will be shown over ten festival days in the Canadian metropolis.

“Return to usual splendor” with Kidman, Damon and Jolie

A year after the Hollywood strike, which meant only a few stars came to TIFF in 2023, the festival management has announced a “return to usual splendor” for this year’s 49th edition. Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Alicia Vikander and Matt Damon are among those expected in Toronto.

Angelina Jolie is also expected to attend the world premiere of her directorial work “Without Blood.” She will also be honored with a TIFF Tribute Award at a gala next Sunday.

Very private documentary about Elton John – Springsteen film is also presented

“2024 is shaping up to be a big year for music at TIFF,” the festival’s CEO, Cameron Bailey, told the German Press Agency. “In addition to a very private documentary about Elton John, we will be showing films about Bruce Springsteen, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams and the band The Tragically Hip for the first time,” said Bailey.

The more than 20 contributions from Germany are also eagerly awaited, including world premieres such as Ali Samadi Ahadi’s “Seven Days” and the co-productions “The Assessment” with Elizabeth Olsen and “Bonjour Tristesse” with Chloë Sevigny. The German director and actor Fabian Stumm has also announced that he will be presenting his film “Sad Jokes” in North America.

TIFF winning film will be announced on September 15

On Sunday, September 15, the TIFF winning film, which is traditionally chosen by the audience in Toronto, will be announced before the festival closes with Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut “The Deb”.
