The United States accuses Russia of trying to influence the 2024 US presidential election through Kremlin-controlled media and online platforms.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Russian media organizations are trying to influence the elections and undermine voters’ trust in the electoral processes in the United States.

The Kremlin has used media outlets such as RT, formerly Russia Today, and other online platforms, according to the US. RT, the focus of the announcement, is seen as a key part of the Kremlin’s propaganda efforts.

Washington is reportedly imposing sanctions on Rossiya Segodnya media group and its subsidiaries RIA Novosti, RT, Ruptly and Sputnik.

Russian legislators described this as a violation of freedom of speech.
