The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has searched an apartment in Frankfurt (Oder). The investigation is being conducted on suspicion of recruiting for a foreign terrorist organization, said a spokeswoman for the authority in Karlsruhe. Several media outlets had previously reported on the matter.
The suspect was taken into custody. However, according to the spokeswoman, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office did not initiate an arrest.
Mayor informs about deployment
According to a spokesman for the city of Frankfurt, Mayor René Wilke informed the city council about the search on Wednesday. According to the city’s information, the person in question is a young student.
The police intervened “to prevent something worse from happening,” the “Märkische Oderzeitung” quoted the city spokesman as saying. Since special protection regulations apply to 15-year-olds, the city cannot provide any further information, the report continued.
