The European Union announced a new aid package on September 6 to provide humanitarian aid to Ukrainians during the winter months.

European Commission spokesperson for budget, human resources, humanitarian aid and crisis management Balazs Ujvari announced the €40 million aid package at a European Commission press briefing in Brussels.

“The funding will be used to repair damaged buildings, provide electricity and heating, as well as provide shelter to the needy,” said Ujvari.

About 5 million euros will be allocated to Ukrainian refugees in Moldova. The new aid package amounts to about 1 billion euros.
