A Briton who was missing on Mallorca has been found dead after a three-day search. The body of the 32-year-old has been recovered and provisionally identified, police on the Spanish holiday island announced. The holidaymaker and his 26-year-old girlfriend were surprised by a storm while hiking in the Torrent de Pareis gorge in the north of Mallorca on Tuesday and were swept away by the water. The body of the young woman was found and recovered on Wednesday.

According to official information, the couple were part of two groups of twelve hikers who got into trouble during the storm. Ten men and women, including a German, were rescued by emergency services using a helicopter on Tuesday. According to police, they had been trapped by rising water masses. They were also “without warm clothing and completely soaked,” it was said.

The 3.3-kilometer-long gorge of the Torrent de Pareis torrent is located in the Serra da Tramuntana mountains. The walls rise up to 200 meters steeply. The hike is considered one of the most spectacular tours in the Balearic Islands. But it is also demanding. People are warned not to underestimate the ascent or descent over huge boulders.
