The VfL Wolfsburg women’s soccer team has confidently overcome the first hurdle on the way to their eleventh DFB Cup title in a row. In the second round, Wolfsburg coach Tommy Stroot’s team beat regional league team Hertha BSC 6-0 (3-0). For the Wolfsburg women, it was the first competitive win of the new season after the 0-1 defeat in the Supercup against FC Bayern and the surprising 3-3 against Werder Bremen at the start of the Bundesliga.

Chantal Hagel (22nd minute), Lynn Wilms (29th) and Fenna Kalma (40th) made things clear in the first half at the Hertha Amateur Stadium. Vivien Endemann (48th), Ariana Arias (63rd) and Wilms (87th) again increased the lead with a spectacular free kick in the second half.

The Berlin club’s women’s football team is only in its second season as Hertha BSC and only slipped into the DFB Cup after its first season because local rivals Union Berlin were promoted to the second division. In the first round, the Hertha women’s team won 5-0 against ATS Buntentor from the Regionalliga Nord.

Wolfsburg, like all Bundesliga teams, had a bye. Since 2004, no regional league team has beaten a Bundesliga team. Up until that point, the regional league was the second highest division, but now it is the third division in the women’s division.
