BANGKOK, SEPT 6 – Myanmar military airstrikes in northern Shan state killed 11 civilians and wounded 11 others, a spokesman for ethnic minority armed groups opposed to the junta told AFP today.

The junta is facing widespread armed opposition to the 2021 coup and its soldiers are accused of bloody atrocities and using airstrikes and artillery to punish civilians.

“They bombed two areas in Namhkam town” on Friday around 1 a.m. local time, said Lway Yay Oo of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

The attack killed 11 and injured 11 others, he said, adding that the office of a local political party was damaged.

The victims who died consisted of five men, four women and two children, he said.

Namhkam is about five kilometers from the border with China’s Yunnan province, with TNLA fighters claiming control of the town after weeks of fighting last year.

Images on social media showed people removing the rubble and carrying a young child who appeared to be injured.
