Great Britain wants to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) with a monument. It is to be placed near London’s Buckingham Palace – in St. James’s Park, as the British government announced on the second anniversary of her death.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid tribute to the Queen’s legacy. Her service and dedication to the country will never be forgotten, he told the PA news agency. The national memorial will be built in the heart of the capital so that everyone has the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Queen.
The monarch died on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96, after 70 years on the throne. People from all over the world traveled to her state funeral. After her death, her son took over the throne as King Charles III.

The government and the palace appointed a committee to develop a suitable tribute for Elizabeth II. The location was chosen because of its proximity to the Mall and the palace, PA wrote. The royals appear on the street, for example, during an annual parade on horseback or in carriages.
On the other hand, there is a very personal connection to Elizabeth – statues of her parents stand nearby. King George VI died in 1952 at the age of 56, her mother – also known as the Queen Mum – in 2002 at the age of 101.
What the memorial for Elizabeth II will look like has not yet been decided. Architects, artists and designers will be invited to submit designs. The final design will be finalized in 2026, the year Elizabeth would have turned 100. St. James’s Park is located between the government district and Buckingham Palace. With its pond and pelicans, it is also popular with tourists.
