The vast majority of holidaymakers had a good rest this summer. In a representative Forsa survey commissioned by the health insurance company DAK-Gesundheit, 85 percent said they had had a good or very good rest. Last year, the figure was 82 percent. However, there are differences between the sexes. 45 percent of men said they had had a very good rest, but only 37 percent of women. Sun and nature as well as time with the family were the key factors for most people to relax. For almost one in three, not using their smartphones or the internet played a key role.
Only 14 percent were unable to regain their strength on vacation. Almost one in five had not recovered well in the previous year. In this group, stress with family or friends reduced the recovery effect for almost a third. 19 percent were unable to relax properly due to extreme heat.
Lack of recovery, especially among younger people
Of those surveyed who did not recover well or did not recover at all, 49 percent said they were unable to switch off. In 2023, this figure was 61 percent. Lack of recovery is an issue especially among younger holidaymakers. Of those over 60, however, 90 percent said they recovered well or very well.
The DAK holiday report is a representative population survey conducted by Forsa on behalf of DAK-Gesundheit. The survey is repeated annually and took place in the summer of 2024 from August 13 to 26. 1,001 women and men aged 14 and over who had already been on holiday were surveyed.
