The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany is urging the German government to to initiate diplomatic mediation in the Ukraine war.
“Personally, I believe that Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz get creative and use Germany’s existing diplomatic channels to explore whether talks with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin would be useful,” said Andriy Melnyk the “Berliner Zeitung” and referred to the still existing embassy in Moscow. The Ukrainians trust the Germans, he said.
Melnyk was the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2022 and is now ambassador to Brazil. He became known to the German public through verbal attacks against Scholz, among others. (dpa)
