The 2:3 loss of SV Babelsberg’s state cup match against Energie Cottbus is overshadowed by violence The main accusation: The wife of Energie player Niko Bretschneider was attacked by a Babelsberg fan and hit in the face. Bretschneider said after the game that he had been showered with beer in the main stands of the Karl Liebknecht Stadium, and that a spectator had then become violent towards his wife. In a video from the “Lausitzer Rundschau” (LR) You can see him storming angrily towards other people – his wife had their small child with her. What exactly happens, however, is not clear.
Energy President Sebastian Lemke said the LR that limits had been reached. “If you come from Cottbus, you are called a right-winger.” He hopes for a reaction from the football association and the police. Visits to the stadium must be safe, demanded Lemke.

In a statement on Saturday, SV Babelsberg contradicted the impression of a targeted attack on the woman and called it a “one-sided portrayal”. Rather, there was talk of “mutual provocations” by Cottbus players and fans of SV Babelsberg, “which led to a spiral of aggression and culminated in a scuffle”. The police and security services are working to investigate the matter. “Regardless of who, when or what kind of aggression came from, we are of the opinion that this kind of behavior cannot be tolerated,” said SV Babelsberg. The police have not yet issued a statement.
The derby had already been interrupted because fireworks were fired from the Babelsberg fans’ block towards the away section. SV Babelsberg announced that it would take action against this behavior “with all means at our disposal.”
