US rapper Kendrick Lamar will be the star of the upcoming halftime show of the Super Bowl of the American football league NFL. The 37-year-old Pulitzer Prize winner from Los Angeles (“Humble”) announced his appearance on what is probably the biggest stage in the world in a video. “I don’t want you to miss it. We’ll meet in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. Wear your best clothes, even if you’re watching from home,” said Lamar. He had already performed at the 2022 Super Bowl together with other rappers.
The halftime show of the NFL final Super Bowl has a long history. The stars don’t get paid for their performances, but they get a career highlight and worldwide – hardly less lucrative – attention. Stars like Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Prince, Michael Jackson and The Weeknd have regularly outshone the football stars on the field. Even in 2025, many of the more than 100 million people in the USA alone will probably be watching the football spectacle in the stadium in New Orleans or on TV.
In recent months, Lamar has caused a stir, especially with his public dispute with rap colleague Drake. His diss track “Not Like Us” became a hit.
