KUCHING, 8 SEPT – The Motherland flag raising ceremony is not only a source of pride for the people of Sarawak but can also fuel the spirit of patriotism, said Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said in addition, the event which is held openly every month also attracts tourists by displaying the Sarawak flag which is mounted on the highest pole in Southeast Asia at the Motherland Square.

“DBKU (Utara Kuching City Hall) organizes this program every month openly and can be witnessed from various angles, with easy access to cross to the event location,” he said after the Motherland Flag Raising Ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi today.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utility) who is also the Minister in Charge of DBKU, Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Datuk Bandar Utara, Hilmi Othman.

Earlier, DBKU in a statement informed that Motherland means sovereignty in addition to showing the greatness of Sarawak with the red, black and yellow flag.

“Citizens of the City of Kuching are invited to attend the Monthly Ceremony of Raising the Motherland’s Flag every month to jointly fuel the spirit of patriotism,” according to the statement. – Named
