KUCHING, 9 SEPT – The rules for the meetings of the National Assembly, Dewan Rakyat and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) need to be amended to be more comprehensive and include elements of social media, said Sarawak DUN Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
He said it was following statements issued by council members on social media platforms criticizing the Speaker’s decision, which was not included in any of the meeting rules.
“So this is a new phenomenon. So we need to discuss with all Speakers and listen to their opinions, all to improve parliamentary democracy,” he said.
Mohamad Asfia said this in a press conference on the 2024 All-Malaysia Parliament and Legislative Assembly Speakers’ Conference at the DUN Building today.
He said the issue involving the legal institution was among the core of the discussion at the conference that will take place this Thursday and Friday at a hotel in Kuching. – Named
