Akron’s North Hill community to host International Day of Peace event soon

AKRON, Ohio – The North Hill Community Development Corporation will host the fourth annual International Day of Peace celebration on Sept. 21 at People’s Park.

The event, located at 760 Elma St., is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It aims to celebrate the community’s multicultural composition by honoring the local businesses and individuals who are working to create a culture of peace, according to the community development corporation website.

There is no cost to attend. This year’s celebration features the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” which invites everyone to take part in promoting and strengthening peace through individual efforts and collective community actions.

Event highlights include local food, drinks, live music and tours of the development corporation’s properties. True North Awards will be given to community members, businesses and nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated commitment to furthering peace, social justice, community building and economic development in North Hill.

Community members can nominate students, individuals, businesses, nonprofits and creative organizations to receive a True North Award. The North Hill Community Development Corporation’s board of directors will determine award recipients.
