Drag queen Olivia Jones has condemned comedian Luke Mockridge’s comments about athletes with disabilities. “It’s an absolute no-go,” said Jones on the sidelines of the “BILD100” celebrity meeting in Berlin. “These are people who have been discriminated against their whole lives.” As a celebrity, you don’t have to pick on that “with such cheap jokes,” complained the drag queen. She thinks it’s right that broadcasters and stages are now pulling the plug.

Derogatory statements with consequences

Mockridge had made derogatory comments about disabled sports in the podcast “Die Deutschen” together with the presenters Shayan Garcia and Nizar Akremi and was publicly criticized for this. The 35-year-old apologized to the athletes, but the comments still had consequences. The broadcaster Sat.1 canceled the comedian’s new show “Was ist in der Box?”, and Mockridge himself canceled the opening shows of his planned “Funny Times” tour “due to the current situation,” as the organizer announced.

An appearance by Akremi was also canceled. The podcast host apologized to the athletes in a video on Wednesday evening together with Garcia, but also took issue with critics who had publicly demanded consequences for Mockridge and the moderators.
