SWEDEN, SEPT 13 – England football star, David Beckham, arrived in Sweden yesterday to attend the funeral of former England national coach, Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Eriksson died on August 26 at the age of 76, eight months after revealing he had pancreatic cancer and was expected to live less than a year.

Beckham, who captained England under Eriksson from 2001 to 2006, visited his coach in Sweden last June.

According to the Swedish news agency, TTBeckham landed at Karlstad Airport yesterday evening, about 310 kilometers from Stockholm. Beckham also reportedly checked into a hotel in Karlstad, which is near the town of Torsby where the funeral will be held today at Fryksande church, which can accommodate 600 people.

Torsby is located in the province of Varmland, where Eriksson grew up and died.

After the service in the church, the coffin will be escorted through a musical procession 700 meters to a museum in Torsby featuring a traditional log house. There, some tributes will be given.

“It’s an honor to be able to attend his funeral, although it’s a sad day,” Roy Hodgson, the former England manager who also arrived in Torsby yesterday, told the local press. Warmlands Folkblad. – AP
