Olympic shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye took third place on the first of two competition days at the Diamond League final in Brussels. The 25-year-old achieved a distance of 19.72 meters at the last major athletics meeting of the season. The victory and prize money of 30,000 US dollars went to Canadian Sarah Mitton (20.25 meters) ahead of Chase Jackson from the USA (19.90 meters).

In the discus throw, Kristin Pudenz took sixth and last place with a weak distance of 57.74 meters. The winner was two-time Olympic champion Valarie Allman (68.47 meters) from the USA.

Swedish pole vault star Armand Duplantis once again provided a spectacular aerial show. The two-time Olympic champion jumped 6.11 metres, but decided not to attempt a world record of 6.27 metres.
