Because of the suspicion of Election fraud after the state election In Saxony, investigators have carried out searches against a 44-year-old man in Dresden. Suspicion against the man has been confirmed, the State Criminal Police Office and the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday.
During the search in the Langebrück district, possible evidence was confiscated. The suspicion of the crime “became even stronger,” according to the authorities.
According to the information, a total of 154 postal ballots were manipulated in two constituencies in Dresden-Langebrück in the local elections on June 9th. There were also changes in the state elections on September 1st: A total of 126 ballots were manipulated – 111 in Dresden constituencies, 14 in two electoral districts in Radeberg and one ballot in the Dohna electoral district. In all cases, the manipulations were in favor of the right-wing extremist party Free Saxony.
Crosses were pasted over
As the Attorney General’s Office announced shortly after the election, crosses were pasted over on the ballot papers and new ones were made for the right-wing extremists. The manipulation was first noticed on election Sunday during the vote count in Dresden, and the city filed a complaint.
Later, further cases from Radeberg were added. According to the Dresden District Election Committee, the manipulated ballot papers, which were declared invalid, had no impact on the distribution of seats in the state parliament.
The State Election Committee also confirmed the final official result of the state electionIrrespective of the manipulated ballot papers that emerged after the election, the distribution of seats in the state parliament as determined on election night remains the same.
The CDU receives 41 seats in the state parliament, the AfD 40 and the BSW 15. The SPD receives ten seats, the Greens seven and the Left six. The Free Voters are represented with one mandate. (AFP)
