VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß did not want to compare his match winner Ermedin Demirovic with his successful predecessor Serhou Guirassy. But he did have special praise for his double goalscorer in the 3-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “He struggled, like many of us,” explained Stuttgart’s coach. “But Ermedin fought his way into the game. He didn’t let himself be defeated and decided the game for us,” said Hoeneß. “That speaks for his character and personality. He gives the team energy,” said Hoeneß.

First double pack for VfB

With his first brace for his new club in the 58th and 61st minutes of the match at Borussia Park, the Stuttgart newcomer from FC Augsburg almost single-handedly secured the win. “That’s a great blow and very important for us,” said Demirovic, who had already scored at the season opener in Freiburg. “We had resolved at half-time that we had to take extra steps,” explained the 26-year-old.

“I fought my way in and was in the right position twice. That gave the team stability. That’s good for us,” said Demirovic, who is now looking forward to the Champions League match against Real Madrid next Tuesday. “These are the days that everyone dreams of,” said the VfB striker.
