FC Bayern has regained the lead in the Bundesliga table with a show of force at Bundesliga newcomer Holstein Kiel. Bundesliga taken over.

Before the Champions League opener on Tuesday against Dinamo Zagreb (9 p.m./DAZN), the record champions gave the still winless northern club a lesson with a 6-1 (4-0) win. After three match days, FCB is in first place, two points ahead of Dortmund and Leipzig.

In front of 15,034 spectators in the sold-out Holstein Stadium, the guests gave the completely overwhelmed Kiel team no chance. Young star Jamal Musiala responded to the recent criticism from TV expert Dietmar Hamann with his goal after 14 seconds.

Harry Kane scored three times (7th/43rd and 90th+1/penalty), an own goal by Kiel’s Nicolai Remberg and new signing Michael Olise (65th) rounded off the successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League. For Kiel, Armin Gigovic only managed a consolation goal (82nd).

Sané back at FCB

It was a perfect Saturday evening for FCB. The Bayern fans who had travelled with them were relieved to see how offensive artist Leroy Sané had prepared himself on the pitch before the match. The national football player was back in the squad for the first time since his groin operation. But initially the 28-year-old offensive player had to make do with the bench. And he stayed there for 90 minutes.

In contrast to Sané, coach Vincent Company unsurprisingly chose the speedy dribbler Musiala. After his exclusion from the Ballon d’Or, which was met with much incomprehension in Munich, the club dealt with the criticism of Musiala by TV expert Hamann during the week.

The ex-professional had described the 21-year-old as a “lone player” and “solo entertainer”. He softened his criticism somewhat on the TV channel Sky. “Musiala is probably the best dribbler in Europe or the world, but in my opinion the balance is not right at the moment. If he would lift his head up a little more and use his teammates, it would probably help more,” said Hamann.

Musiala responds to criticism

Musiala was not impressed. According to data provider Opta, his goal was the club’s third fastest goal in Bundesliga history. However, Musiala is still some way off the league record. Former professional Karim Bellarabi (2014) and Kevin Volland (2015) from Union Berlin share the best time of nine seconds.

Bayern then played themselves into a frenzy. Kane continued in the league after his brace in England’s 2-0 win against Finland in the Nations League. His two goals in the best striker style and the own goal by Remberg ensured a clear 4-0 half-time score.

Kiel’s Rapp banned from the stands

Kiel’s red-carded coach Marcel Rapp had to suffer in the stands with his defeated players. Before the match, the fans of the promoted team had hoped for another sensation. In the first competitive duel between the two teams, the northern club had surprisingly knocked Bayern out of the competition in the second round of the DFB Cup in 2021.

But Kiel was far from a sensation in the second half, even though Kiel’s Benedikt Pichler (47th) headed the ball onto the crossbar. On the other side, Kiel’s well-positioned goalkeeper Timon Weiner initially prevented the next goal.

Bayern calmly combined through the arena, and Kiel did not offer much resistance. Substitute Michael Olise increased the lead to 5:0. After Kiel’s consolation goal, even ex-Bayern striker Fiete Arp could have reduced the deficit even further with a shot that hit the crossbar. But Kane restored the five-goal lead with a penalty.
