Klopp shaped an era at FSV. He was head coach at the Rhineland-Palatinate club from 2001 to 2008, before moving on to Borussia Dortmund and later to Liverpool FC. After leaving the top English club, the former player has been without a club since the summer. Under Klopp as coach, Mainz managed to gain promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2004.
