Berlin’s independent schools had high hopes for the CDU’s dual leadership in the Senate Chancellery and Education Administration: the latter had announced that it wanted to strengthen the institutions after decades of discrimination. But so far, the hopes that the disadvantage compared to state schools could come to an end have hardly been fulfilled. Now – due to Berlin’s financial crisis – the next disappointment is looming: the subsidies for the renovation of school buildings promised in the coalition agreement are not in sight.
